Through his interest in science and the arts and their correlation Fritz Winter defined the ‘promotion of talented young people in science and research as well as art and culture’ as the Foundation’s mission. To fulfil the artist’s request, the Fritz Winter Foundation has been awarding prizes to outstanding scientists and artists from 1986 to 2020.
From 2024, the Fritz Winter Foundation will award a research scholarship of €10,000 every two years. The scholarship is awarded to students, doctoral candidates and postdocs (doctorate not more than 5 years ago) in art history and related disciplines whose research project is dedicated to the work and influence of Fritz Winter.
Fritz Winter Scholarship
Scholarship holder 2025
The Fritz Winter Foundation is delighted to be able to award a research grant of €10,000 for the year 2025 for the first time and would like to congratulate Dr Dirk Hildebrandt on receiving it.
Dirk Hildebrandt is currently researching Fritz Winter in the context of post-war European art networks. His focus is on the question of how and under which conditions the artist and his work were able to become visible and effective in the post-war period.
Dirk Hildebrandt studied in Bonn and Paris and was a scholarship holder in Basel. He worked as a research assistant in Frankfurt and currently holds the same position at the Institute of Art History at the University of Cologne.
