Through his interest in science and the arts and their correlation Fritz Winter defined the ‘promotion of talented young people in science and research as well as art and culture’ as the Foundation’s mission. To fulfil the artist’s request, the Fritz Winter Foundation has been awarding prizes to outstanding scientists and artists from 1986 to 2020.

From 2024, the Fritz Winter Foundation will award a research fellowship of €10,000 every two years. The scholarship is awarded to students, doctoral candidates and postdocs (doctorate not more than 5 years ago) in art history and related disciplines whose research project is dedicated to the work and influence of Fritz Winter.
