Fritz Winter Prize

Through his interest in science and the arts and their correlation Fritz Winter defined the ‘promotion of talented young people in science and research as well as art and culture’ as the Foundation’s mission. To fulfil the artist’s request, the Fritz Winter Foundation has been awarding prizes to outstanding scientists and artists since 1986 of €12,500 and €25,000 (formerly DM 25,000 / DM 50,000). The festive prize-giving ceremony is held at intervals of one to four years and accompanied by exhibitions of Franz Winter’s work. To date, 35 people have been honoured with the internationally acclaimed Fritz Winter Prize, presented in Dresden, Halle, Munich, Münster, Paris and Stuttgart.

The names of potential prize winners are put forward by independent academic bodies to the Board of Trustees of the Foundation. Unsolicited applications from artists are not accepted.
